“ I am inspired intensely by nature. During the summer months I work almost exclusively outdoors, painting and drawing plein air, soaking up colour, light and shadow. I store up ideas and inspiration for the long winter like some sort of art squirrel. During winter months, I bring forward these ideas when I work in encaustic. I revel in the process of manufacturing my own beeswax-based paints using local beeswax, tree resin and pigments. The thought that bees in my own province have actually made the medium I work with is quite inspiring. I appreciate each loaded brush and try to honour the wax. My current encaustic series is about signs for nature. They can be seen as road signs, or perhaps off-road signs.”
